about

For this game I was recommended to get some inspiration from progressive rock. Music like Rick Wakeman's 1974 Journey to the Center of the Earth should be a big influence.
But I had to work within the limitations of the 48k beeper, mostly for nostalgic reasons and to keep the game as original as possible.

Picking up on that influence, I tried doing my best while trying not to sound too close to the original songs. While not even getting close to the amazing work of art that is Wakeman's album, I hope I was able to channel that sound and translate some of the ambience and story into this short theme.

The song is composed of two different parts that somehow manage to work together really well. The first is supposed to be an orchestral, symphonic rock melody, trying to convey the sense of adventure and exploration in the beggining of the game.
Halfway it changes to a (as I imagined it) piano and guitar duet that is related to the surprise you get on the ending of the game (that I obviously won't reveal here). Throughout I've experimented with dissonance, trying to use some "spicy" chords, risking a bit but still trying to make something that sounded pleasant.

Conceptually I was going with a very big symphonic rock sound, hoping this adaptation manages to sound close to you, the listeners, to what I intended originally. Enjoy!
